Perez Hilton on Being Less Mean, and His New Baby

'I feel like it spiraled out of control. It got progressively meaner and bitchier,' the new parent said of his former online persona

Perez Hilton has been changing. The online face of celebrity gossip has been toning down his mean streak since 2010 when he says he decided to, "aspire higher," as he told the LA Times. He started with an It Gets Better video, but it was, as we've seen, not exactly a fast process.

"I don't have to give people nasty nicknames anymore," the 34-year-old blogger said as he held his 2-week-old baby boy. "I don't have to say people are stupid, or people are fat, or people are ugly. I don't need to draw inappropriate things on photos or out people. I can still be sassy and fun and do my job."

Wait, did you miss that? Yes, in case you didn't know, Perez now is a papa--joining the ranks of other gay baby news that has been on a high the past months (i.e. Ryan Murphy, Chely Wright, Elton, and Rosie).

Perez broke the news, but he has finally shared more details, since he certainly kept the plans under wraps!

Last year, he reportedly found an egg donor and a surrogate to carry his biological child: Mario Armando Lavandeira III, aka Perez Hilton Jr, as the father remarks on his site. He was born prematurely on Feb. 16, a month earlier than expected, and weighed 5 pounds, 9 ounces.

Perez also told the LA Times that he always knew he would have a child by his 35th birthday (this weekend), and was always prepared to do so alone: "I knew it was going to happen this way because boyfriends and husbands may come and go, but kids are forever. I didn't want to keep waiting."

The new bundle of joy will keep Perez busy and at bay, but with his online empire still as popular as ever, will we see the claws come out again (as they did with the Azealia Banks incident earlier this year? Probably not, so we'll have to find new guilty pleasures!
