The election is only a day away—and the Zomneys are hungry.
Halloween may be behind us, but it's never a bad time to start practicing your "brains!" chants. With polls opening tomorrow, director Joss Whedon wants to remind you what's really at stake in this year's presidential race--zombies. In a mock support video last week, the Buffy creator praised Republican candidate Mitt Romney for his "vision and determination," qualities that would "put this country back on the path to the zombie apocalypse."
The video expertly targets Romney's less-than-cuddly attributes. Whether it's accusing 47 percent of the nation of being freeloaders or his dismissive surprise at the idea of same-sex couples raising families, Romney plays into Whedon's critique naturally. It's exactly Romney's disregard for underrepresented groups that Whedon takes issue with, claiming the former governor has the experience to face "a ravening, gasping hoard of sub-humans, because that's how he sees poor people anyway." Ouch.
Of course, in the world of politically-motivated show business, it's never too soon for a spin-off. Only days after Whedon's spot, the site RepublicanZombieDefense.com premiered its own zombie-filled take on the Romney campaign. What the video lacks in Whedon's irony and finesse it makes up for in, well, chainsaws and fake organs. Screaming arguments against conservative stances on health care and gay rights, a motley group of horror movie stereotypes makes mince meat of undead Romney voters. The point is clear, even with all the gushing blood getting in the way: Vote for Barack Obama, or liberals will come cut your hands off with garden shears.
Wait, is that right?
