Jesse Finkelstein and Katie Kingof the label JF & SON have caught our eye for a plethora of reasons. Their clothing is not only intriguing, with a focus on eclectic patterns and modern updates on ethnic prints, they've set up an operation that allows themselves to be in control of their company from head to toe. With an office here in the states and satellite factories in China and India, they can maintain control over their output, something many young designer have to forgo in order to produce their lines in a cost-effective manner abroad. They can also assure that their staff is taken care of and receiving good treatment, an invaluable benefit. By taking this road, they're making interesting adjustments to a paradigm that just didn't work for them -- and hopefully inspiring others to do the same. Kudos to thinking out side the box, guys!
The duo have a brick-and-mortar store in Manhattan for locals who want to peruse their goodies, but best of all they've just released some terrific new home textiles on offer. While fashion may be near and dear to our (and Finklestein and King's) hearts, with spring right around the corner, we're betting that everyone's apartment could use a nice refresh and reboot. Well, we're just about dying over everything they have, from the earthy-toned patchwork pillows and quilts to the more vibrantly colored ikat print cushions, some covered in sparkling beadwork. It's the perfect thing to add a jolt of excitement into your living room (which, no doubt is looking awfully drab after the never-ending winter we've just had).
So for those of you in the New York City metro area, you're in luck because JF & SON is open to you everyday from 12pm-8pm. Just head over to 56 University Place (at 10th St.). You won't regret it, we promise. If you're not in the neighborhood, just hold your horses and visit their website on 3/18 when it relaunches.
