To memorialize the lives lost to suicide due to bullying, an online campaign was started last week to wear purple on Wednesday October 20th, which is today. While this is an honorable idea, leave it to the internet age to twist it into a 'trend report'. The website Dot429 posted an article today on 'how to wear purple.' While the intent may have been earnest and from a positive place, we're not so sure it was executed as tactfully as it could have been. What these young people's stories pointedly do not need is some service-y how-to hook to drive traffic. The post, which you can read here, comes across as flippant and insensitive at best and downright tacky and degrading at worst. Sorry, but this is not the way to go about honoring the memory of the lives lost.
