Back Over The Rainbow

Friends of Dorothy unite! The Wizard of Oz, which has undoubtedly played a significant role in gay history, will be reimagined in two upcoming projects.

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi (left) is set to direct a prequel to Victor Fleming's 1939 classic, entitled Oz: The Great and Powerful. According to Deadline, the Disney film will follow Oz's wizard (likely played by Robert Downey Jr.) before he became the wizard we all know: "He's in fact a circus wrangler transported by tornado to the mysterious world of Oz where he gets mistaken for a know-it-all."

In addition, Summertime Entertainment is planning a CG-animated sequel to The Wizard of Oz, with Dorothy being voiced by Glee's Lea Michele. Michele has been holding her own against gay icons lately (Streisand, Gaga, Madonna), but even so, Garland's ruby red shoes will not be easy to fill!
