Songs from the Disney renaissance are sources of nostalgia magic, able to transport listeners back to the theater where they first heard it or to their parents’ living room full of careworn VHS tapes. Seeing the studio effort behind these songs, starring the voice actors who made them iconic, is an experience unto itself and brings things full circle.
In a new clip from the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival pick HOWARD, viewers get a rare glimpse at Angela Lansbury (Mrs. Potts) and Jerry Orbach (Lumiere) recording the film version of Beauty and the Beast’s “Be Our Guest.” The film focuses on renowned lyricist Howard Ashman, who served as the creative mind behind the songs from Disney’s Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid, and was the creator of Little Shop of Horrors.
The film also contains interviews with composer Alan Menken and Beauty and the Beast director Kirk Wise. HOWARD debuts at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 22. Watch, below.
