FLICK: If your Halloween plans don't involve dusting off your Valerie Cherish running suit for your neighborhood haunt's costume bash, go see Saw IV, the latest gruesome installment in the torture porn franchise. Although Jigsaw was killed in the last film, series star Tobin Bell somehow returns, this time to torment Agent Strahm, played by Gilmore Girls's dreamy-eyed Scott Patterson. Saw IV opens nationwide October 26.
TUBE: This season the gals from Wisteria Lane welcome their very first gay couple (Tuc Watkins and Kevin Rahm) to the block on Desperate Housewives. Watch the episode in which their front-yard water sculpture forces the neighborhood association into action at ABC.com. The fourth season also welcomes Firefly eye candy Nathan Fillion as a gynecologist and Dana Delany in a role that will give drag queens material for years to come. Desperate Housewives airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
TUNES: Yes, the whole damn album was already leaked, but traditionalist audiophiles can snag a copy of Britney Spears's Blackout when it hits stores this week. Will the rest of the record live up to the promise of its hyper-catchy first single, Gimme More? Comeback or letdown? We're saying nothing for now. You should also pick up the soundtrack to Im Not There, the Bob Dylan biopic helmed by queer auteur Todd Haynes, featuring covers of classic Dylan songs performed by venerable artists like Cat Power, Yo La Tengo, and Iron & Wine.
DVD: If you were gay and grew up in the nineties, chances are you dreamed of one day walking down the school hallway holding hands with a flannel-clad Jared Leto -- just like Claire Danes did. This week My So-Called Life: The Complete Series (and your teen angst) will be revived on DVD. The short-lived, critically acclaimed series was groundbreaking in its exploration of raging hormones, body insecurities, and gay issues. Revisit its three-dimensional look at the fey, mascara-sporting Ricky (Wilson Cruz), a lost boy who could often be found inhabiting the girls bathroom. My So-Called Life: The Complete Series lands on DVD October 30.
SPECTACLE: On Halloween, head to Rebel in New York City for Motherfuckers Monster Mash-Night of 1,000 Monsters. Treats: an open vodka bar and live performances by Cycle Sluts from Hell, Stalkers, and the Hunt. The tricks are up to you. For more information, log on to MotherfuckerNYC.com.
