Everyone who lived in America has a story about September 11th, 2001. And for those who lived in New York during that time, the stories are often particularly vivid and intense. Playwright Brian Sloan's 9/11 story actually started on September 10th, 2001 when he placed an ad for a roommate in the second bedroom of his West Village apartment. After returning to his evacuated neighborhood a week after the fateful attacks, Sloan found that many people still responded to the ads and were nonetheless interested in occupying one of the most volatile locations to reside. His newest play WTC View, explores a time when one of the most vibrant cities in the world was on its knees, and the people who still wanted to live there.
Using the crowd-sourcing website IndieGoGo (which, by the way, is incredibly cool if you've never heard of it -- learn more here) Sloan is looking to raise funds to produce his play. As he mentions in the video above, he isn't benefitting from a score by Bono nor a cast of recognizable names, but he's dedicated to showing his work, and he needs your help. Go to the website and give anything you can, be it $5 or $500, to help support theater in New York. There are incentives for those who donate above the $50 level and, of course, all donations are tax-deductible (and good for your soul!).
As we quickly approach the 10-year anniversary of the tragic bombings, it's an apt time to see insights from a man who lived so closely to ground zero and what those years have revealed in retrospect.
