Jean Paul Gaultier Sends a Dude Down His Couture Runway

Jean Paul Gaultier has always been a man of the moment. He knows how to both shock and awe an audience, to the point where in the nineties, people found his runway antics infuriating and crass. But, at his core, he has been a free-spirited designer who has a sharp eye and and a dexterous hand. Today's couture show was the exemplification of what he could do -- a Valentine to Parisian women of all walks of life (the can-can dancer included), and the critics' reviews are already pouring in, glowing with praise (Cathy Horynloved it). And while the glamour and technical precision was all in tact, we can't help but be wooed by his final look -- in couture, the final look is often called 'the wedding dress', the piece deresistance of the collection -- by sending the androgynous male model Andrej Pejic , who has become an overnight success thanks to his gender-bending features, in a floor-length sheer gown wrapped in bands of tulle in varying thicknesses, and -- of course -- a black waist-length veil sprouting from hedge-like mohawk perched upon his/her head.

It was eye-widening shock mixed with sensual beauty. It was what every girl dreams of. Ah, couture.
