FLICK: In Nim's Island adventure writer Alexandra Rover (Jodie Foster) plays a big city loner who is contacted for help by Nim (Abigail Breslin), a young girl living on a remote island, when her father disappears. Guided by literary muse Alex Rover, played by the dreamy Gerard Butler (above), Foster and Breslin count on each other for survival. Check out Fosters surprisingly comedic turn in the trailer here. The movie hits theaters April 4.
TUNES: While she may be releasing the mid-tempo All I See with rapper Mims as her first U.S. single, there is no denying that Kylie Minogues new album, X (out April 1), is all about frothy, unadulterated, electro-infused dance tracks. The Aussie pop queens tenth studio release includes Wow, In My Arms, and 2 Hearts. It's been too long, Kylie, but this catchy, thumpy release was definitely worth the wait.
DO-GOODERNESS: Tony- and Emmy award-winning actress Cynthia Nixon (of Sex and the City fame, above) and Time Warner will be honorees of the Point Inspiration Award and the Point Courage Award, respectively, on April 7. The Point Foundation-sponsored event Point Honors... The Arts New York, which includes a dinner and silent auction, will also be honoring three Point Scholars. Expect to see all the gals from SATC, as well as Carson Kressley, a clutch of former Project Runway contestants, and Broadway actors Kerry Butler (Xanadu) and Anthony Rapp (Rent). At Capitale in New York City. Get more info at PointFoundation.org.
SPECTACLE: New York Universtys Tisch School of the Arts Second Avenue Dance Company will present its major spring concert series. Beginning April 2, the show features the work of choreographers Trisha Brown, Jessica Lang, Mark Morris, and Christopher Williams. Rounding out the set will be work from five student choreographers, with performances taking place in the Fifth Floor Theater, 111 Second Avenue, in New York City.
