Could a Batgirl Movie Be in the Works?

Neon Demon director Nicolas Winding considers getting in on the comic book movie game.

Nicolas Winding Refn, whose artful direction brought us the sexy noir thriller Drive in 2011, as well as this summer's softcore horror Neon Demon, says he would love to helm a comic book movie, "one of those big Hollywood films that costs a lot of money and has a lot of people running around with cell phones and all that insanity."

Rumors continually fly about which comic book characters will get their own standalone franchise next, as Marvel and DC duke it out for box office domination. "What ones are left? You know the one I want to do?" asks Refn. "I want to make Batgirl. Let's get Warner working on it."

With Demon receiving middling reviews and already showing signs of flagging box office returns, who knows if he'll ever get the chance, but a visionary director who makes bold choices like Refn does seem like a good fit. We can always use another kickass female superhero movie, since we're still waitingfor that Wonder Woman movie, only out next summer.

Who knows, maybe he'll cast Jena Malone in the role of Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl. She was best part of Neon Demon after all.
