It seems that with each passing week, gay marriage comes to a greater cultural and political forefront. It wasn't until just a few days ago that we had Hillary on our side, after all. But as gay marriage rises in the social consciousness, so, too, does the other side of its coin: gay divorce. With most media treating the matter as a bleak reality (see: last month's New York Magazinecover story), a new short film by Stuart Blumberg (The Kids Are All Right) gives it a comically sexy treatment.
She Said, She Said stars Marisa Tomei and Elodie Bouchez as a lesbian couple in the midst of divorce. The 6-minute film was made to promote the Co Spring 2013 collection--a line founded by film producer Stephanie Danan and screenwriter Justin Kern.
"We knew the collection would look amazing on Elodie and Marisa and that they would make a very sexy couple, but we didn't want the lesbian aspect of the story to feel completely defining," Kern explains. "We wanted to
focus on the relationship dynamics that are familiar to everyone, gay or straight, which is why their gender is never mentioned."
It shows Tomei and Bouchez in mediation with David Wain playing meditor to divvy up their possessions. Aubrey Plaza also stars as a hipster in the park who has the hots for Tomei. For the brevity of her appearance, Plaza is perfect. "God, you're foxy, like a fox," she says. "I wanna burrow in your den and make little fox babies with you. You into that?"
Turns out, Tomei and Bouchez are fighting over the two main men in their lives: Jimi Hendrix, their adorable yorkie puppy, and Sylvester, their prized Mercedez-Benz. Then the third item comes up for debate: a sexy, backless garment that clearly has Tomei and Bouchez hot and bothered, longing for a memory. The two smoulder on screen, and that's when things get interesting.
