The trailer for Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan premiered yesterday, and it is all kinds of crazy! The thriller stars Natalie Portman as a disturbed ballerina facing competition from another talented dancer, Lilly (Mila Kunis). The delightfully campy trailer promises lesbian kisses, creepy bruises, violent cat fights, and demonic possession. And was that a quick shot of Mila Kunis masturbating?
I loved Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go, and if this Atonement-inspired trailer is any indication, the film adaptation seems to have perfectly captured the atmosphere of the tragic novel. The narrative follows a group of school children as they try to understand what makes them so "special." While I think the preview gives a little too much away, it nevertheless promises luscious cinematography and stellar performances from Carey Mulligan and Kiera Knightly (who totally look 18).
After his post-Two Loversbreakdown on Letterman, Joaquin Phoenix all but disappeared, leading to widespread speculation as to what actually happened. Was his downfall the result of a cocaine addiction? Was it some kind of a hoax? Now, Phoenix's brother-in-law Casey Affleck has made a documentary (or is it a mockumentary?) about the actor's tragic fall. The Dylanesque poster and preview promise a candid look at Phoenix's meltdown and failed attempt to become a hip hop artist.
