The BET Awards is probably the only awards show of note because they know how to put on a goddamn show. They had performances from Janelle Monae, Patti LaBelle, Nicki Minaj and a showstopping Bad Boy reunion starring Lil Kim's latest face. But the real highlight was a high-energy dance tribute featuring Ciara, Tinashe and Jason Derulo.

As I've said repeatedly, don't sleep on CiCi. If anyone is Janet's heir apparent, it's her -- though clearly Janet's not going anywhere anytime soon.

But Tinashe came to show out during her "Pleasure Principle" number and Derulo turned out the dance break from "All for You." Before you could say "Gimme a beat!" Ciara was tutting across the stage for "If" and then the three kids came together for "Rhythm Nation."
Then Miss Jackson herself showed up in a time machine from 1993 -- serving you "That's the Way Love Goes" curls and a nonexistent waist in a wide-legged jumpsuit -- to accept the completely-made-up-sounding-but-who-cares-because-she's-here Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award.
The audience was on its feet and I was on the floor. Don't call it a comeback, kids -- she's been here for years.
