Brief Encounters 7 http://www.out.com/sites/out.com/files/imagecache/slide-image-white/solo_wendell.jpg 12690

Name: Wendell Lissimore

Age: 24

Hometown: I was born in Iowa originally. My dad was in the Army so from there I moved to the Dominican Republic. We lived in Germany. We lived all over. Then I came here, to New York, when I was 10 or 11.

How were you discovered? I was at a fashion show -- not as a model -- and this guy named Adrian saw me and said, "You need to model." And I thought, "Nah, I don't want to do that." While I was at the show, Adrian introduced me to an agent, George, who was asking me, "What number were you? What outfit did you have on?" and I said, "Oh, no. I was sitting front row. I wasn't in the show." He gave me his card and I threw it away [laughs.] Two days later, I saw him coming out of H&M. He tapped me on the shoulder and gave me his card again. That weekend, coming out of the movie theater, he tapped me on the shoulder again. I turned around and was like, "Wow…three times in one week. It's meant to be." I wasn't doing anything at the time -- I was 19, and my mom said, "Well, you're not doing anything..." So I called him and everything took off from there. I was in Paris and Milan three weeks later.

What was your first big shoot? L'Uomo Vogue.

Were you nervous? Super nervous, but I had done a few test shoots before that with Cliff Watts and that helped me feel more comfortable.

What do you like most about being a model? Traveling. People think you make a lot of money modeling, but you don't. Vogue and the runway shows pay an editorial rate, but something like Macy's pays you a lot more. But definitely the traveling is the best.
What do you not like about modeling? Waking up early. The bigger the magazine, the earlier the call time. You're on set at 5:00 A.M., but you don't even shoot the first look until 11 or noon. I don't have any hair, my skin is good, and so there's just a lot of waiting. But you have to be there.
What's your favorite job you've worked on? Hermes. The first time I went to the Hermes team, I didn't know what I was going in for. Then, my agent in Paris told me they had put me on option and I realized how big it was. I've done every season since, flown to Shanghai for them, and do their look books.
What's your fitness routine? I actually haven't worked out in six or eight months. I used to work out every day when I first started, but now I think its muscle memory.
Do you have a diet? No! Actually, I was at Dallas BBQ last night. My favorite meal, besides filet mignon, is honey sticky wings at Dallas BBQ! It's the genetics and muscle memory.
Do you do anything on the side? I had a TV show last year that was on BET, MTV, and VH1, and I'm reading scripts now. I'm trying to act -- do something else. It's all related, you know?
Boxers or Briefs? Briefs. I like the cut and I'm too slim for boxers.

Name: Thiago Ribeiro

Age: 27

Hometown: South Brazil

How did you get scouted? I was on the beach in Brazil and a man gave me his card. I went to Asia as a model for three years, but I was being a party boy and having fun. Now I'm taking it more seriously, so I came to America, to New York City, to be more professional and make a living.

What were you doing before you started modeling? I was studying acting and was working as a spokesperson at events. Then, I studied advertising in college.

What was your first job? A fashion show -- I can't remember what for -- I think it was like a shopping mall or something.
Were you nervous? No, not really. Well, kind of, because a big actor in Brazil was there in the audience.
What do you like most about modeling? The opportunity to travel -- although I'm tired now -- but before I saw the whole world. Also, the flexibility of the work.
What do you like least? All the waiting -- at the casting, at the shoots. The lifestyle can be hard, the traveling and the partying and drugs. I'm over it now.
What's been your favorite job? A few months ago, I did an editorial in Miami and I had never been there before. I was on a boat for a few days just taking pictures.
Do you have a fitness routine? It's pretty much genetics, but with fashion season coming, I go to the gym more. I have to keep my mind, body, and soul in good shape and stay focused. Again, I'm trying to be more professional.
Do you adhere to a diet? I try not to eat carbs and not eat at night.
Do you have any side projects? Right now I'm just modeling, but I'm trying to get my real estate license. Oh, and acting.
Boxers or briefs? I prefer boxers because they're more comfortable, and honestly, I think they look better.

Name: Scott Buker

Age: 20

Hometown: Coco Beach, Florida

What were you doing before modeling: I was going to community college and working part-time, nothing too serious.

How were you discovered: I was always interested in modeling so I took some Polaroids and looked on MODELS.com and sent them to the top 10 agencies and heard back from a few, but ultimately decided on Red. I moved here about three weeks ago.

What was your first shoot? About two hours after I got here! It was just a test shoot.

Were you nervous? Yeah, I was pretty nervous. I was brand new, fresh off the plane [laughs.]

What do you like the most about modeling: I like the atmosphere -- it’s not actual work. It's fun and enjoyable. It's not a desk job.

What do you like least: The waiting. The last minute appointments and rushing.

What has been your favorite job? Working with Greg Vaughan. I just did a Reebok shoot with him. Good atmosphere and I liked the other models.

Do you have a fitness routine: In Florida, I used to go to the gym and do lifting, but now I'm not trying to get any bigger, so I just run -- hopefully once a day, but running around for appointments can get tiring. But I try.

Do you adhere to a diet: I know a lot about nutrition, so I try to stick to a bodybuilders diet: low carbs, lots of protein. Stuff like that.

Any side projects that you're working on? I'm trying to get my personal trainer's license. Like CPR certification and that stuff. I'm trying to be a personal trainer eventually, so I'm working on that.

Boxers or briefs: I used to wear boxers when I was younger, but I wear briefs now -- they're a bit more grown up.
