Summer nights were made for performance art.

Though still a young museum, The Broad is cementing its place as a bastion for contemporary and queer art and expression.

Opening just last year in downtown LA, The Broad is commemorating its first summer with "Nonobject(ive): Summer Happenings at the Broad, an impressive lineup of programming that promises that intrigue and entertain throughout the season.

The late-night performances will be held once a month on a Saturday night from June through September. The programs focus on immersive forms of expression, including performance art, dance, music, and spoken word. The featured artists will recall formative work from the 1980s and 1990s that affected underground, rave, and downtown Manhattan's culture. Artists slated to be a part of the programming include Rostam Batmanglij, Perfume Genius, Sophie, the Haxan Cloak, Richard Hell, Julianna Barwick, Charles Atlas, Kailyn Aurelia Smith, Vessel, Narcissister, Cindytalk, Jlin, and Elysia Crampton.

Along with Nonobjec(ive): Summer Happenings at the Broad, the museum also opened its first special exhibition, Cindy Sherman: Imitation of Life, featuring the film series Doll Parts, which was inspired by Sherman's darker works.

The museum , which was designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro along with Gensler, offers free general admission, and tickets to the summer programming go on sale the 15th of each month for following month's showings (ticket's for July's program went on sale June 15, and tickets for August go on sale July 15).

The Broad also features 2,000 works in its notable holdings of postwar and contemporary art in its $140 million, 120,000 square foot building. Make a day of it and come for the collection, but don't leave until you've seen the summer programs.
