Emmys Fallout: Titus Burgess & Lee Daniels Both Had Strong Reactions to the Awards News

Tituss Burgess

Daniels takes to social media to share his feelings

It's safe to say that yesterday's Emmy nominations were a mixed bag: They got a lot of things right and a lot of things wrong. Obviously being chosen -- or passed over--for the biggest award in television is sure to elicit some strong emotions. Case in point: Lee Daniels and Titus Burgess.

Daniels and his Fox network mega-hit, Empire, were snubbed by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (save for Taraji's recognition). Daniels didn't take the news well:

He later posted two more videos, one saying that his "fuck those motherfuckers" comment was all in good fun, the other congratulating his ex-partner and father of his children, Billy Hopkins, on his nomination for his work on Bessie.

But the reactions ranged from outbursts made ostensibly in jest, to outbursts of tears of joy. Unbreakable Kimmy's Schmidt's Titus Burgess received a Best Supporting Actor nomination in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of the "Pinot Noir"-singing musical-theater actor Titus Andromedon.

"I didn't set out to distinguish myself, and that's the honest truth," Burgess tells Vulture. "I actually just told my best friend this morning when she showed up, I started crying. I said to her, 'Why am I crying?' "

Well done, Titus.

If the nominations were enough to bring out this caliber of emotional fireworks, we cannot wait for the live show on September 20.
