The Moment: February 18, 1938: Bringing Up Baby, starring Cary Grant, is released.

When Andrew Scott, best known for playing Moriarty in the TV series Sherlock, started researching his role for this year's Pride -- a sweet British movie set during the country's infamous miners' strike of 1984 -- he was pulled up short by what he discovered. "They called gay people the slime of society," he told Entertainment Weekly in September. In the film, Scott, who came out publicly in 2013, plays a London bookseller who's motivated to join gay and lesbian campaigners in support of miners in Wales. But the Irish-born actor chafes at the suggestion that Pride is a gay movie. "My own personal experience, I feel, is kind of irrelevant," he says. "It's about our humanity."
