The Los Angeles–based political consultant and fundraiser became a national LGBT rights figure due to the American Foundation for Equal Rights’ (of which he was president) pivotal role in the Proposition 8 lawsuit, which overturned the law. This year, Griffin was named president of the HRC and will soon replace current president Joe Solmonese at the helm of the organization, a move that could energize a new generation of donors and volunteers.
