James-Collier got his start as an actor by simply doing a favor for a friend who had asked him to fill in for an actor who did not show up for his film. This motivated him to become more involved in film, and soon after, he started taking acting classes. He auditioned for his first television series "Down to Earth", and despite having no real acting experience, was given the role. His two biggest roles have been in the hit shows "Coronation Street" and the popular "Downtown Abbey".
