The Moment: August 26, 1928: Ivor Novello stars in the film version of Noel Coward's play The Vortex.

Greg Berlanti is part of a generation of gay men affected by the '80s documentary The Times of Harvey Milk, which Berlanti cites as an inspiration for him to incorporate his own experiences into his work. Currently, that work includes writing and producing two CW superhero series, Arrow and The Flash, and serving as a producer on Pan, the forthcoming film about J. M. Barrie's mischievous fabled character, Peter Pan.

"I think in television in particular, I've been able to have gay characters in most, if not all, of what I've done," Berlanti says, tracing his efforts all the way back to when he was writing for Dawson's Creek in the 1990s. "I had to threaten to quit to get a gay kiss on [that show]. It's rewarding when you talk to younger writers and directors who say they saw something you did and that it had an impact on them."
