Cate Blanchett to Star as Lucille Ball Biopic by Aaron Sorkin

I Love Lucy

The film is being produced by Ball's children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr.

According to The Wrap, Cate Blanchett will star in a Lucille Ball biopic written by The West Wing and Newsroom creator Aaron Sorkin.

While there's no news yet on who will direct the picture, which is being produced by Ball's children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr., or who else will star in it, we do know that it'll be about Ball and her 20-year marriage to Cuban bandleader Desi Arnaz.

The two eloped in 1940 and would go onto create the classic TV sitcom I Love Lucy in 1951 through their Desilu Productions. They divorced in 1960 and Ball would marry Gary Morton a year later.

Sorkin has had a good track record when it comes to writing biopics; he won an Oscar for writing The Social Network and his Moneyball, about the life Billy Beane, was nominated for 6 Academy Awards.

His upcoming film Steve Jobs, which focuses on the life of the Apple founder, stars Michael Fassbender and opens October 9.

While this is all well and good, one of the most common criticsms leveled against Sorkin is that his female characters are all one dimensional and exist only to support male leads. So we'll have to wait and see if Sorkin can do justice to the life of the comedy trailblazer.
