Ellen Surprised Lesbian Couple After Parents Wouldn't Attend Wedding

Ellen Degeneres and lesbian couple

"Everybody deserves love," DeGeneres told them.

During the "Show Me Your Tweets" segment on her show Monday, Ellen DeGeneres surprised a lesbian couple who has unsupportive parents by inviting them to come on the show. Get ready for a whole bunch of waterworks.

After getting engaged to her beautiful fiancee, Sarah, Kate Austin had tweeted at DeGeneres saying that her parents aren't supportive of her relationship and that they refuse to attend the couple's wedding because their daughter is gay. "I need someone to walk me down the aisle and someone else for a 'father/daughter' dance," she posted.

The talk show host couldn't make it to the actual wedding, but invited Kate and Sarah (classic lesbian names, BTW) to be in the audience for a taping of her show. That's when she gave the couple the surprise of their life by inviting them onto the stage to celebrate the happy moment with them. These women are so precious and cute, and I want nothing but the world for them.

Austin thanked the actress and comedian for all the inspiration she's provided over the years. "[I]f it wasn't for someone like you, I would've never had the courage to just go out there in public and propose to my fiancee," she said. "So many people don't accept that, and you paved the way for queer women everywhere."

"Everybody deserves love," Ellen replied. "And the fact that your family doesn't accept it, I am so sorry."

"My mom was really terrible," Austin told DeGeneres. "I've been out for five years now, so she's said everything you can think of under the sun. But coming out and owning it... taught me courage and owning who I am and it allowed me to be my authentic self."

"I am so happy that you had the courage to do it," Degeneres said.

The host went onto surprise the couple with a few wedding gifts. The first was a life-size cutout of Ellen to stand in for her at the wedding -- complete with a tissue for the crying brides.

Next, DeGeneres unveiled a huge gift box, big enough to hide several people inside it. When the box was lifted up, all of Kate and Sarah's best friends were underneath so that Sarah could propose back to Kate, this time in front of their chosen family. Classic lesbian move! Ellen also surprised them with some help from Shutterstock with a $25,000 check to give them an open bar at their wedding.

DeGeneres sent out a message of love to everyone who needed to hear it. "For Kate and for all the people out there who are not accepted by their family," she said, "you are loved by so many people and we love you for who you are exactly, so know that."

While DeGeneres has been getting in trouble lately for her friendships with anti-LGBTQ+ people like George Bush and Kevin Hart, this episode was a good reminder of the great work she's done and the impact she continues to have on countless LGBTQ+ people's lives. Congratulations to the couple, we wish you all the best and a long and happy marriage! Love wins!
