Queen Latifah

Nee Dana Elaine Owens in 1970, Queen Latifah has done everything--a world-class rapper, singer, and actress, she has won a Grammy, Emmy, and Golden Globe (not to mention an Academy Award nomination) in her 30-year career. Her biggest single, "U.N.I.T.Y.", spoke out against the treatment of women in the rap community, calling for--you guessed it--unity. She has never shied away from difficult issues, using her songs to tackle issues like domestic violence. Long reticent to label her sexuality, in 2021 she thanked her life partner in a speech at the BET Awards and wished the crowd a "Happy Pride." She continues her career as an outstanding actress and rapper today.
