Kevin McHale On The Future Of Glee & The Possibility Of A Reboot
The RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race star gives his take on the future of the musical series.
Calling on Gleeks! Kevin McHale shared his thoughts on whether a potential sequel or reboot of Glee will ever happen.
As fans know, McHale starred as Artie Abrams on the hit series and most recently he got into drag as Chick-Li-Fay onRuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race. While speaking with E! About his time on the reality competition, the conversation turned to the possible future ofGlee. We are living in the reboot and requel era, after all.
He definitely had thoughts on the subject, however, they may not be the news that fans clamoring for more Glee had hoped to hear.
“I don’t know if that would ever happen as a TV show or a reboot-type thing,” McHale told E! News. “I don’t think that would ever happen. Well, you know, until Ryan Murphy says so.”
Here’s the thing: Murphy is an incredibly busy producer with a new season of American Horror Story and Feud both in the works, along with the Netflix film Mr. Harrigan’s Phone and the series The Watcher both on the way. So his plate may be a bit too full for a Glee reboot at the moment — however, never say never.
The good news is that McHale shared that he’s still close with his castmates. Specifically, McHale shared that he still sees his former costar Chris Colfer “every couple of weeks” and he has an exciting new project on the horizon with his fellow Glee castmate — and Secret Celebrity Drag Race competitor — Tina Choen-Chang in the works. The two are collaborating on a new podcast called And That’s What You Really Missed about, you guessed it, Glee. The first episode is set to drop on October 31.

“We all grew up together. We grew up doing this really insane and unique thing,” he said. “It wasn’t even just shooting a TV show together. It was a TV show that became weirdly successful all over the world for different groups of people who didn’t normally have something like this on network TV.”
While that’s not the same as getting a new season of Glee, getting to hear these two reminisce is definitely worth singing about.
