Taylor Swift Says She's Straight, Despite All the Bisexual Rumors

This just in. Taylor Swift has come out as … straight!

Prior to the release of Taylor Swift’s video for “ME!,” fans were swirling with theories about the pop star potentially coming out in conjunction with the release of her new album, Lover. Where she didn’t come out for the release of “ME!,” or even for the release of her super-gay video for “You Need to Calm Down,” fans are still posing new speculation Thursday that she might be bisexual according to clues in her Instagram post.

Well, those rumors were quickly smothered  in her cover story for the September issue of Vogue, where she explicitly disclosed that she is not part of the community.

“Rights are being stripped from basically everyone who isn’t a straight white cisgender male,” she tells Vogue, when asked about why she chose to, all of a sudden, stand up for LGBTQ+ rights. “I didn’t realize until recently that I could advocate for a community that I’m not a part of.”

“It’s hard to know how to do that without being so fearful of making a mistake that you just freeze. Because my mistakes are very loud,” she said, perhaps alluding to her much criticized political silence during the 2016 election, wherein many believed her disavowment of Donald Trump or endorsement for another candidate would have had substantive sway in red states where her many of her fans — particularly white, conservative women, 52% of which voted for Trump — are based. “When I make a mistake, it echoes through the canyons of the world. It’s clickbait, and it’s a part of my life story, and it’s a part of my career arc,” or part of putting a dictatorial regime in the White House, you know, things like that.

In the profile, she also shared a story about coming to terms with her silence on LGBTQ+ issues in a conversation with longtime friend and collaborator, the music artist and Drag Race guest judge Todrick Hall. “Todrick and I are in the car, and he asked me, ‘What would you do if your son was gay?’ ... The fact that he had to ask me . . . shocked me and made me realize that I had not made my position clear enough or loud enough,” Swift said. “If my son was gay, he’d be gay. I don’t understand the question.”

“If he was thinking that, I can’t imagine what my fans in the LGBTQ community might be thinking,” she said. “It was kind of devastating to realize that I hadn’t been publicly clear about that.” Love realizing things! Love growth!

Me? I’ll reserve my excitement for when Swift gets involved in a presidential campaign come 2020.
