The Queer Queen of Halloween is coming to Netflix this October!
Netflix has just released a teaser for their upcoming Netflix and Chills with Dr. Elvira program, which will see the Mistress of the Dark taking over the streamer’s social channels every Sunday to recommend new horror titles for us to check out.
The teaser starts with a man in a fittingly spooky therapist’s office, saying that there’s so much going on in the world, he doesn’t even know what to worry about anymore. That’s when his doctor is revealed to be horror and queer icon Elvira, Mistress of the Dark!
“Horror and thrillers are actually here to improve your wellbeing,” Dr. Elvira says to the stressed-out man. “Don’t believe me? Well, restlessness is caused by stress and fear. That means heart-pounding thrillers can combat stress because they’re designed to elicit a shock response.” All of this is accompanied by images of horror films and series on the streamer.
Dr. Elvira continues: “This releases hormones like adrenaline, cortisol, and norepinephrine resulting in a mood boost. After the credits roll, the brain calms itself down with some tasty serotonin, relieving tension and giving you a sense of wellbeing.”
Her prescription? Watch as much horror as you can this month. And she’s got the perfect films and series to recommend.
As part of the celebration of the year’s spookiest, and gayest month, Netflix will be releasing a new horror movie every Wednesday. The Wednesday films are There’s Someone Inside Your House, Fever Dream, the Megan Fox-featuring Night Teeth, and Hypnotic.
Dr. Elvira will come back each Sunday to recommend even more horrors to watch, both new releases and classics. So make sure you watch out for her, and whatever else may be lurking in the dark.
Elvira, real name Cassandra Peterson, recently came out and revealed that she has been in a relationship with a woman, Teresa “T” Wierson, for 19 years. She wrote about the relationship in her new book, Yours Cruelly, Elvira. “For the first time in my life I’m with someone who makes me feel safe, blessed, and truly loved,” she wrote.
Netflix and Chills with Dr. Elvira will continue each Sunday, so make sure you listen to the doctor's orders and do as you're told!
