Truman Says

As men's Fashion Week wraps up in Milan and editors and buyers are hopping on the next flight to Paris to continue the fashion marathon, some patterns are emerging (literally, in some cases). While last season bright -- almost fluorescent -- colors were all the rage, there has been a pretty solid swing in the direction of subtler, less-saturated tones hitting the catwalks. One that is plainly obvious is that of a rich, warm play on orange -- we'll just call it mustard.

Speaking of the designs, as someone who’s worked with big name retailers, how do you approach this particular niche market differently? How do you come to it? What inspires you to make it different, and what makes it special?

Hm, let's see Kate Moss or Karlie Kloss pull this one off. While male models infamously make mere pennies compared to what their female counterparts make and get a fraction of the fame and recognition, the male model sensation Andrej Pejic -- who went from obscurity to infamy virtually overnight thanks to his androgynous appearance -- has a leg up over his female competition. You see, Pejic can channel femininity that trumps even the top lady-models hitting the catwalks, but can (obviously) pass for a moody, lanky, long-haired boy as well.
