For the sixteenth year in a row, LGBT filmmakers have converged in Zurich, Switzerland, for the Pink Apple Film Festival, running now through the 9th of May. Currently in its sixteenth year, the festival features dozens of documentaries, features, shorts and other gay cinematic treasures, including an entire panel on all the gay elements of the music competition Eurovision.
There are so many projects baubles many that it would be impossible to celebrate then all, but to give you a sense of the international breadth of this gathering, here are trailers and clips for a seven flicks being screened at the Pink Apple Film Festival in Zurich this week.
1. Les Invisibles: Director Sebastien Lifshitz's documentary about French gays and lesbians who lived out of the closet in pre-Stonewall Europe is a must-see, no matter where you live.
2. All The Way Through The Evening: We dare you not to choke up watching this trailer for Australian director Rohan Spong's documentary about pianist Mimi Stern-Wolfe and her musician pals putting on a concert to honor early AIDS victims.
3. Facing Mirrors: Directed by Negar Azarbayjani, this feature-length tells the story of what happens when an Iranian woman strikes up a friendship with a person she discovers is transgender.
4. Bwakaw: Beloved Filipino actor Eddie Garcia plays a single, aging gay man whose only companion is a stray dog, the titular Bwakaw, in this feature from director Jun Robles Lan.
5. And You Belong: Julia Ostertag's documentary about America's very own queer electro-hip-hop duo, Scream Club.
6. Difficult Love: South African filmmaker and activist Zanele Muholi's latest project looks at the dangers of being a lesbian in the Rainbow Nation. There's no official trailer, but Muholi discusses her work in this clip.
7. A Perfect Ending: Nicole Conn's upscale lesbian thriller finds Barbara Niven as a bored housewife who gets her kicks with female prostitutes managed by Morgan Fairchild. A perfect ending after all that heavy stuff.
