I was lucky enough to travel to the Philippines during the holiday known as Undas, or All Saint's Day. Held on November 1 every year since the Spanish rule from Mexico City, Undas is a time for commemorating the dead, when cemeteries come alive with festivals, prayer, music, food, family, and even camping. It's an amazing testament to family values, and the strength of kinship.
Inclusion is part of Filipino tradition, and I found myself welcomed with open arms (never was my sexuality or my religion even a topic of conversation), and as a foreigner, it's a special treat to be able to witness such a moving festival.
