Troye Sivan has truly been a role model for younger members of the gay community. Since coming out to his considerable YouTube following when he was 18, the singer has grown into an icon, openly writing songs about having a romantic interest in men and casting men opposite himself in his videos.

In a recent chat with Rolling Stone, Sivan called coming out "the best thing that I've ever done in my entire life," and talked about how his decision to come out when he did was layered. After he got took the first step, which he says is coming out to yourself, he wanted to make sure he came out before he signed his record deal. "I didn't want to sign my record deal while I was closeted, just in case they tried to tell me not to come out," he said. "I didn't want to every give anyone that kind of power." Watch below.
