Diva Overload: Mariah Carey to Appear on Season 2 of Empire

Yeah, you read that right. Taraji P. Henson and Mimi could be sharing screen time soon.

Variety reports that platinum-selling artist Mariah Carey will have a role on Season 2 of Fox's Empire.

Though Daniel's is tightlipped about her role on the show -- "I'm already in trouble with my publicist," he tells the trade publication -- he does want you to know that this isn't a case of stunt casting.

"She has certainly proven herself, good lord. Repeatedly," says Daniels. "I'm very excited to see where she goes on Empire."

This is a subtle nod to Daniels' past work. Daniels put Carey up for a starring role in Aaron Woodley's Tennessee, which Daniels produced, and supporting roles in his own Precious and Lee Daniels' The Butler. As for her film debut in Glitter, the less said the better.

"She's very underestimated as an actor," Daniels explains. "Directed properly, she's a tour de force. A lot of the time, she can be intimidating because she's a strong-willed woman. She needs a strong director who grasps her and they can lean on each other. I think that directors that are brave will see that."

Sounds like Empire, already one of the most popular shows of this year, will have some huge ratings in its future.
