  BILL T. JONES
  LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT

For Bill T. Jones, one of the contemporary dance world’s most formidable and enduring talents, 2007 proved to be a year full of milestones. The artistic director of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company celebrated the company’s 25th anniversary, received his first Tony award, and was inducted into the National Museum of Dance’s Hall of Fame.

Since founding the company with his late partner, Jones has fearlessly combined raw artistic beauty with strong social commentary. Though the MacArthur “genius grant” recipient once wrote that “my eroticism, my sensuality is often coupled with a wild anger and belligerence,” he was nothing but jubilant last June when he leaped onto the stage to accept his Tony for choreographing Spring Awakening, thanking the Broadway community who “took a snob like me into their hearts."
