The 28-year-old Chris Hughes (left) and 25-year-old Sean Eldridge were married this past Saturday at their home in Garrison, N.Y. by a retired justice. Hughes co-founded Facebook along with Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz, and Eduardo Saverin. The politically active and connected Eldridge is founder and treasurer of Protect Our Democracy, an advocacy group based in Garrison that seeks campaign finance reform, and the president of Hudson River Ventures, an investment firm.

Hughes (No. 28 on Out's Power List and featured on the cover of The Advocate's "40 Under 40" list last may) recently purchased the New Republic and is now its publisher and editor. The Times recently profiled the power couple and said that they "have emerged as a significant force in political circles, becoming enthusiastic fund-raisers for the progressive issues they support, which include gay civil rights."

As the Times writes in its Weddings section:

"The couple met in November 2005 through a college acquaintance of Mr. Eldridge's at a brunch in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Mass. Mr. Eldridge was working as a customer service manager for a moving company in Somerville, Mass., and Mr. Hughes was a senior at Harvard, and already a founder of Facebook."

"He was very intelligent and charismatic," Hughes said of Eldridge. "He was very kind and politically engaged, and he cared about the world around us. All of that was very attractive to me."

Eldridge was equally attracted. A week later, he asked Hughes out on a date.

"I think we shared a lot of important, common interests," Mr. Eldridge said. "We have a love of philosophy, politics and literature. He was one of the most intelligent and ambitious people I had ever met."
