Hot List: Ladyhawke & Casey Spooner

'I have always wanted to create a more dynamic idea of masculinity,' says Casey Spooner, the gay half of pioneering art-pop project Fischerspooner. As he prepares to tour for the duo's third album, Entertainment, the veteran electroclasher is drawing inspiration from a revelatory 5 a.m. flamenco performance he attended in Malaga, Spain. 'The strange collision of gypsy, Arab, Spanish, and Hollywood influences was incredible,' he says. 'I hope to do the same in some way.' Meanwhile, Phillipa 'Pip' Brown is revamping '80s power-pop with her one-woman band, Ladyhawke. 'I wanted to make music that could give people a feeling of nostalgia,' the striking New Zealand native says, 'even though they may be hearing my songs for the first time.' Mission accomplished: The up-and-comer's new self-titled album shimmers with enough spacey retro synths to beam you back to the future -- without having to locate a DeLorean or fend off passes from your mom.
