Surfers attempt to tame the mercurial and vast sea, confronting its roiling waves in hopes of catching a smooth ride to shore. No decade epitomizes the glamour of the sport more than the 1960s, during which Elvis's romance with Hawaii played out on cinema screens and the optimistic harmonies of Southern California's Beach Boys dominated radio airwaves. Plenty has changed since then, but the allure of hanging ten has endured.
