Watch: Trans Girl Shares How She Overcame Bullying

Corey Maison

Corey Maison shared her heartbreaking story to reach other victims of bullying.

A transgender teen shared her experiences with being bullied as part of The BULLY Project. In the video, 14-year-old Corey Maison is posted in the girls' bathroom at her school. She holds up note cards detailing her experiences being bulliedand her life since.

Maison explained in the video how, before she knew she was transgender, she never fit in with her peers at school. The bullying became so bad that her parents pulled her out of school to homeschool her.

It was not until Maison's mother found a documentary on Jazz Jennings that Maison and her family understood.

"She was a beautiful girl...that had been born a boy!" The video said, "I said to my mom, 'OMG, I'm just like her, I AM a girl!"

You may recognize Corey Maison from another viral video from last fall, in which her mother surprised her with her first dose of hormones. She describes the first day of her hormone treatments as "the best day of her life."

Since then, Maison has returned to a new public school that is LGBT inclusive. She uses the girls' bathrooms and locker rooms, and plays on the girls' soccer team.

Maison ends the video by saying, "I want to tell anyone being bullied...This is temporary, and it WILL get better."

Corey Maison told her story over High Dive Heart's new song, "Misfit," which The BULLY Project describes as an "anti-bullying anthem."
