North Carolina Sues Federal Gov. Over Bathroom Ultimatum
“Transgender is not a protected class.”
North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory isn't easing up on the white-knuckle grip he has on his bathroom bill that's been in the headlines for the last couple weeks.
Today, McCrory filed a lawsuit against the federal government in a response to a letter sent last week telling McCrory that his bathroom bill was unconstitutional. According to NBC, the lawsuit calls the Justice Department's position a "baseless and blatant overreach." The letter sent from the fed threatened North Carolina with the pulling of public funds, stating that discriminating against transgendered individuals is a violation of the Civil Rights Act.
"Transgender is not a protected class," the suit says, going on to say that if the Justice Department believes it to be, then to bring that notion to congress.
