Gay dating app SCRUFF released a survey today revealing its users' opinions on the egregious miscarriage of democracy known as the 2016 election. Nearly 13,000 gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (GBTQ) men took the survey, and though Hillary Clinton is the clear favorite with 79% likely to vote for her, 11% favored Trump instead.
The Republican nominee for president enjoys his most support from GBTQ men in Louisiana and Wyoming, where 28.3% and 27.8% are pro-Trump, respectively, while Clinton is most popular in the District of Columbia (87.9%) and Oregon (87.7%).
Other findings from Scuff's survey include:
- 79% of respondents believe Hillary Clinton supports LGBTQ rights, compared to 12% of Donald "Ask the Gays" Trump believers.
- 2016 made 19.5% of respondents want to support a third-party candidate.
- 37% of respondents will vote for different parties across their ballot.
- 38.6% consider federal employment non-discrimination the most important LGBTQ-related issue.
- 15.6% consider climate the biggest non-LGBTQ issue.
- 23.4% don't think people of color are unfairly targeted by the police.
- 43% consider the Pulse massacre in Orlando a hate crime; the same percentage consider it both a hate crime and an act of terrorism.
- 41.3% are more likely to vote for gun control candidates in the wake of Orlando; however, the Pulse shooting had "no impact" on 51.7% of respondents in regards to voting for gun control vs. gun rights candidates.
- 83.7% disagree that immigrants pose a threat to society.
- 62.3% disagree that race relations have improved under President Obama.
- 84.5% disagree that the fight for LGBTQ rights is "mostly over."
- 94% disagree that the fight for transgender rights is "mostly over."
- 85.6% believe marijuana should be legalized.
- 67% believe the U.S. has a moral responsibility to take in Syrian refugees.
- 18.4% think the election is rigged.
This survey was conducted before Beyonce donned a pantsuit for Hillary, which I can only imagine must have tipped the GBTQ man needle, if only slightly.
