FiveThirtyEight, the data-driven news site helmed by numbers wizard and OUT100 2013 honoree Nate Silver, launched today.

Silver, you'll recall, correctly predicted the voter outcomes of 49 out of 50 states in the 2008 election and was 50 for 50 in 2012. Though he played down his track record on the site's manifesto, he did make his case for the importance of data-driven journalism.

The ESPN funded site will cover five major subject areas: politics, economics, science, life, and sports. FiveThirtyEight promises not only to interpret hard data from each of these subjects, but also to show readers the method they used to get to their conclusion. Admittedly this leads to some rather dry pieces, but they are never the less informative.
