1. The Hawaii state Senate is expected to vote on an amended version of the marriage equality legislation today. According to The Advocate, the Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie may sign it as early as tomorrow, making it the latest state to allow same-sex marriages to proceed. "We're on the cusp of becoming one of the states that is going to be recognizing marriage equity," Blake Oshiro, deputy chief of staff for Gov. Neil Abercrombie, told Hawaii News Now.
2. Rapper Macklemore comes out as proud ACLU member. "I've got a lot of things to do during the day. So something like being beaten with a club, pepper-sprayed, and tased for expressing my political views would really slow me down. That's why I carry the ACLU card," Macklemore says in the 50-second video. "It's the only card that lets my gay friends marry the hell out of each other. The card that says, 'Hey girl, it's your vagina and you should be able to do what you want with it.'"
3. Shirley MacLaine says she and Maggie Smith 'Talk About Our Lives, Our Past, Our Lovers.' In an interview with Parade magazine, the legendary actress talked about her relationship with her Downton Abbey co-star. She also had advice for young stars like Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift on how to handle fame "Yeah--cool it. [Their antics] influence the response to their actual work," she said in the interview. "They're good musicians and they're good with translating music into lyrics, into expression. But all we think of is what they do antic-wise...they've become a product."
4. Jonathan Moscone, the sone of the late SF mayor who was was murdered with Harvey Milk in 1978, married his male partner this past weekend. The ceremony between Moscone and Darryl Carbonaro took place Friday in the mayor's balcony of San Francisco's City Hall, the place where Moscone's father was slain 35 years ago. Former mayor Willie Brown officiated, with about 80 guests in attendance, as the couple spoke their vows in the mayor's balcony, where a bust of Mayor Moscone now stands.
5. Houston Mayor Annise Parker, one of the first openly gay politicians, will read the Gettysburg Address with other notables. She's joining the ranks of President Barack Obama, William J. Clinton, Stephen Colbert, and other others to call on Americans to recite the Gettysburg Address for a public outreach campaign designed by acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns in anticipation for the upcoming 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, which will take place November 19, 2013. 6. Cute gay couple makes 'case for marriage.' Faces of Fairness is a groundbreaking new multimedia project that is shining a bright light on the inequalities and legal discrimination LGBT people currently face in West Virginia. The project includes a touring photography exhibit, a documentary film, and a Web-based archive. In the project's latest entry, the story of partners Justin Murdock and William Glavaris takes center stage as they tell the story of how they met, fell in love, and are fighting for marriage equality.
