Good news for anyone who's ever wanted to shack up with a snowboarder or a mountainman!
According to the Associated Press, Colorado's civil-union bill recently passed the House Judiciary Committee with a 6-5 vote, which means that the bill is only one step away from becoming a law. Fortunately, Democratic governor John Hickenlooper has already said that he will sign the bill into law if it passes the House--and since there's already a lot of Republican support for civil unions in Colorado, it looks like this story might have a happy ending!
Joining the five Democratic "yes" voters was Republican B.J. Nikkel, who claimed she wasn't "passionate" about the bill, but felt that voting "yes" was "the right thing to do."
"It's still a work in progress," House Minority Leader Mark Ferrandino told The Advocate. "But I've had good conversations with members of both of those committees, and I think we are looking in a positive direction." Ferrandino stressed that supporters of civil unions should be contacting their representatives with even greater frequency as the bill moves through its final committees.
