Anohni

"The price for this song is a gesture of anonymous vulnerability."

It speaks to the world's collective cynicism that, in 2017, when something doesn't cost money we all ask, "What's the catch?"

In the case of Anohni's new EP, PARADISE, the catch is that, instead of the dollar you would normally put towards acquiring the album's final track, "I Never Stopped Loving You," the singer instead wants "a gesture of anonymous vulnerability" from her fans.

In a Facebook post ahead of the EP's March 17 release, ANOHNI said, "If you have listened to my music over the years, you know that I have publicly given something of my heart. If you would like the final song from PARADISE, email me at anohni@rebismusic.com and share with me in a sentence of two what you care most about, or your hopes for the future."

She continued, "Send this to me instead of the dollar you used to send me in the olden days. The price for this song is a gesture of anonymous vulnerability. That may be too expensive for some of you, and that's okay."

What exactly does "anonymous vulnerability" entail? The singer wants to hear "your collective mind," she wrote. "I want to see that river of thoughts." ANOHNI emphasized that this is a personal exercise in vulnerability, and doesn't want to hear about how her music affects fans, but rather about them alone. "Take a risk and break out of established ways of doing and perceiving. It is what you have expected of me as an artist, and just for a moment, it is what I ask of you."
