Moonlight, La La Land, Manchester Continue to Conquer Awards Season With Writers' Guild Nominations

It's no surprise that the three emerging top awards contendersall picked up nominations for Best Original Screenplay.

Well, there aren't many surprises to be found in the WGA's three awards categories: Moonlight, La La Land, and Manchester By the Sea all nabbed original screenplay awards.

Since Moonlight is technically based on a story by Tarell McCraney, and being treated as an Adapted Screenplay by the Academy Awards, it's categorization, addressing the play as a story credit, is somewhat brow-raising, but not entirely shocking.

In the Adapted category, it's notable that the raunchy, irreverent Deadpool scored a nom, but the other competitors were pretty deservingly predictable, including Arrival, Fences, Hidden Figures, and Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals.

Check out the full list below. The WGA awards will take place bicoastally on February 19.
