"Sometimes I look at him while he's getting dressed and I say, 'This is not going well.' Actually, I barely need to say anything, he knows it from the look on my face. I'm a fashion designer, what can I do?"

-- Roger Vivier head designer Bruno Frisoni commenting on his equally creative partner, Hervé Van der Straeten, who designs furniture and jewelry.

  • Entertainment Night Cats

I first met Huang Ping (pictured above) in the Night Cat. It was November 2006, and I was in Changsha, in the Chinese province of Hunan, photographing the underground cabaret'cum'gay disco for a project on youth culture. In the bar's windowless employee dorm room -- little more than a shoddy gesture of goodwill from its owner -- rusting bunk beds were cluttered with belongings and the motionless shapes of young bodies curled under thin blankets.

  • Entertainment The New Teen Dream

Once hyped by their label boss Pete Wentz as the baby of Maroon 5 and 'N Sync, the Cab's debut LP, Whisper War, lives up to the band's musical ancestry. It's the fresher, slightly funkier follow-up 'N Sync never made to 2001's Celebrity, packed with almost too-clever lyrics and tight guitar and piano hooks. How did these five 19-year-old guys -- vocalist Alex DeLeon, guitarist Ian Crawford, pianist Alex Marshall, drummer Alex Johnson and bassist Cash Colligan -- graduate to up-and-coming kings of the teen scene?

Tom Bianchi, the gay erotic photographer who's now 63 and lives in Palm Springs, remembers the first time he photographed a naked man. It was 1975; he was a young lawyer for Columbia Pictures in New York City, and a week or so after Labor Day he went out to the quieted-down Fire Island Pines to recover from hernia surgery. He brought along a then-new-to-the-market Polaroid SX-70 he'd been given at work.

"The people with the best style for me are the people that are the poorest. Like, when I go down to Venice beach and I see the homeless, like, I'm like, 'Oh my God, they're pulling out, like, crazy looks and they, like, pulled shit out of like garbage cans.'"

-- Model Erin Wasson on her fashion inspiration.
