Queer Fall Flicks
Save Me Long in distribution limbo, Robert Cary's (Ira and Abby) heartfelt and nuanced film smartly eschews the typical venom of religious debate to explore the universality of spirit, healing, and love. Chad Allen stars as a spiraling-down gay man who joins an ex-gay Christian ministry run by Judith Light. (Opens September 5) Assassination of a High School PresidentSeptember 04 2008 8:00 PM
Not So Little Britain
Little Britain is the funniest TV show in the world. It's sort of a fake documentary about life in England. It is narrated in stupid little sentences. It stars Matt Lucas and David Walliams. Lucas used to play a giant baby on a fake game show. He is gay. Many people think Walliams is also gay. He isn't. But he did once swim the English Channel. Lucas plays Daffyd, the Only Gay in the Village; nymphomaniac socialite Bubbles Devere; and Vicky Pollard. Mr. Giles from Buffy was in it too. Walliams plays mostly gay or in drag.September 04 2008 8:00 PM

- Entertainment Lumberjacks, Soldiers and Delivery Men, Oh My!
When John Bartlett started designing clothing in 1992, so many men were still wrapped up in the threadbare clutches of grunge, and metrosexuality had yet to come barreling out of the closet. Bartlett's visionary sketches of sharp, stylish, not-too-formal men quickly earned him accolades, most notably the Council of Fashion Designers of America's best menswear newcomer award in 1993 and 1997's Menswear Designer of the Year.September 03 2008 8:00 PM

Christopher Wheeldon wields a lot of power in the world of ballet. Happily, as the former soloist and resident choreographer -- and, frankly, the golden boy -- of the New York City Ballet, he wields it gracefully. Wheeldon, 35, began dancing in his youth at London's Royal Ballet, and he lives, breathes, and loves (his partner, Jock Soto, is a recently retired New York City Ballet legend) ballet even as he yanks it into the 21st century.September 02 2008 8:00 PM

“Lighten up... Fashion is no longer a rich man’s privilege. Anyone can carry it off and make it look beautiful... We weren’t trying to make a political statement or save the world."

There are times when it seems right and necessary to challenge the presumption of a gay culture, if only because it assumes the existence of its opposite -- a straight culture (in which we implicitly have no part). And then there are times when you are going innocently about your life, minding your business, thinking happy assimilationist thoughts, when out of nowhere comes a huge rock to knock your equilibrium off-kilter. Last month that rock came wrapped in lyrics that sent me spinning (not a metaphor) back to my tender youth, just as songs are supposed to do.September 01 2008 8:00 PM

New hotties to watch for: Dustin Milligan (playing Ethan Ward), Ryan Eggold (Ryan Matthews), The Wire's Tristan Wilds (Dixon Wilson) and Michael Stegar (Navid Shirazi). It appears we've lost another cherished gay tradition to the straight mainstream. Like plucked eyebrows on men, Abercrombie & Fitch, and anal sex, our hetero pals have decided to co-opt another valuable piece of our homo heritage: snark. And straight teen boys, who never really got the hang of tweezers, aren't handling snark very well either.August 28 2008 8:00 PM

Christopher Ciccone spent most of the last 47 years following his big sister Madonna around the world and pitching in where and whenever she needed him: back up dancer, tour director, interior designer and -- above all -- confidante. Which is probably the position she most regrets assigning him now that he's released a tell-all memoir entitled Life With My Sister Madonna. The Queen of Pop outed her brother in a 1991 interview with The Advocate, so it seems only fair that Ciccone should have a chance to return the favor and air some of her dirty laundry.August 27 2008 8:00 PM
