On my recent visit to the newly reopened Ralph Lauren store, which houses all the company’s men’s lines, I half expected to see Frank Muytjens, Jack Spade, Michael Bastian and the like lined up on prayer mats outside, basking in the refracted propriety of it all, taking inspiration for 2012 collections.

It's no big secret that fashion and music have always been friendly bedfellows. This past NYFW when we were sitting at the shows, we got to thinking about how what a designer plays during their show or presentation is almost as important as the actual clothing. You can tell immediately if they were feeling fun and frisky, or if they were a bit somber and cranky these past few months. You can tell if these are break-up clothes, or breakthrough clothes.

Do you have any regrets? When you watch episodes do you wish you had changed any of your designs?

I didn’t do my best work on the show, at all. I did my best work to get on the show but once you are there it’s a whole different story. I was disappointed that I couldn’t execute my designs the way I wanted to or the way I envisioned them. That’s really the only regret I have. Other than that? No. It was a real blessing to be on the show.
