Last night the fashion cognoscenti descended upon Lincoln Center for the annual CFDA Awards, which are basically the Oscars for fashion designers. Everyone from Anna Wintour and Lady Gaga to Anderson Cooper (who hosted) and Marc Jacobs (who was awarded the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award) were in attendance, with all the bells and whistles you would expect.

T-shirts supporting gay rights are nothing new in the fashion biz. Dov Charney's hipster clothing empire American Apparel has long had a gay pride t-shirt as part of its roster and mega-retailer Urban Outfitters landed in some hot water after pulling a pro-gay marriage t-shirt off shelves a few years back.

Listen -- We love Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciega and Stella McCartney (even if we're still waiting for her to design some eco-friendly clothing for the boys) but when WWD reported today that all three will be opening up storefronts in New York's infamous shopping- and tourist-trap Soho (once the beloved resting place of artists lofts and homeless people) our shoulders immediately tensed.
