Truman Says

It's no secret that one of life's cruelest jokes is that gay men love to throw lavish parties for their friends, yet same-sex couples -- in New York state, of all places -- were denied life's biggest shindig: a wedding.

Like most things in life, this weekend contained moments of strange tragedy and joyous celebration. With the heat at all time highs, the sudden death of Amy Winehouse (and subsequent reactions via Facebook and Twitter!) and New York State's legalization of gay marriage, we've been on an emotional roller coaster since Friday. Here are just some of the things that have kept us in the loop since we chatted last:

New York City, in terms of history, is a young fashion capitol. While we may lack a lengthy narrative and renowned houses with centuries of archives, we certainly have cast a world-wide influence that, on a good season, rivals even the storied labels of Europe. But things were not always like this...not by a long shot.

It's odd but the latest media trend -- and yes, we realize this is nothing new and has been said before -- is to find some budding, new, talent --someone who has the potential and talent to be a huge success in their field of choice -- and then create a fevered buzz around them only to then turn their back on them and point out each and every misstep they make -- just for the sake of having news, it would seem. We've seen this kind of backlash before, but now the tsk-tsking is focused on Nicola Formichetti.

Um, it looks like Robert Pattinson's barber may-or-may-not have been on mushrooms (the fun kind) when he crafted this mess.

David Beckham is launching a fragrance in September, aptly titled David Beckham Homme. Hey, somebody's gotta pay for his little lady's clothing.

No, this is not some strange America's Next Top Model shoot. This is Tyra Banks dressing up and doing guerilla marketing today on the NYC subways to promote her latest work of brilliance, the young adult novel Modelland. God we love this woman.

If you're a guy, there are certain tasks that nature has thrust upon you that are inescapable (killing bugs, listening to girls talk about their man troubles, for example). Shaving, too, is certainly one of these things. It's an unavoidable (well, almost -- Williamsburg, Brooklyn is the exception to that rule) responsibility that one must partake in. It's by no means an enormous undertaking, but its a minor annoyance nonetheless.

For those of you who think that modeling is an easy business, filled with exotic travel, endless parties, getting paid to walk down a runway and then putter off to the next show -- you'd be right. Models.com and Justin Wu caught up with the biggest names in male modeling during the spring 2012 shows. Looks like they had plenty of time to do boy things....and look oh-so-cute doing them. Enjoy the silliness and hotness of the video below.

With September issues about to hit stands, Condé Nast publisher Susan Plagemann announced which magazine had the most ad pages by confirming the obvious: Vogue wins, betches.

More than half-a-million people have seen the Met's Alexander McQueen exhibit "Savage Beauty".

Aw. We love this. On the eve of gay marriage being recognized in the state of New York, one of the publishing world's most debonair dudes, Stefano Tonchi -- editor in chief of W Magazine -- and his boyfriend (maybe soon-to-be hubby?) gallery owner David Maupin have welcomed two baby girls to their home.
