Truman Says

You have to hand it to Robert Geller. While a lot of designers take their spring-summer inspiration from rote muses (Beach! Barbecues!), Geller’s outing was a much needed dark star amid what is turning out to be a prism of color. He stuck to his grey and black guns. “I’m a romantic,” Geller said backstage after his Saturday show. “The darkness is part of romance for me. It’s not pessimistic. Spring can be just as moody as fall.”

Loden Dager
showed off one of the week’s strongest (and boldest) collections – a mélange of prints and hyper-colors – it was like if Zac Morris from Saved By The Bell took a hip hop turn (in the best way).

“We started out looking at early skate and surfboarding,” said Paul Marlow, one of the collective’s designers, “all the faded out photographs. But it wasn’t right. So, we pumped up the colors and made it a little street.”

Out of all the men’s shows in New York, N. Hoolywood certainly banks on its theatricality. With each successive outing, the designer Daisuke Obana raises the bar, putting on the only men’s show that is a genuine spectacle. His debut presentation in 2010 had the street-cast models rounded up in a veritable crime wave and staged in a police identification mugshot array –- a perfect iteration of the label’s film noir DNA.

Scurrying back and forth to shows sure can be exhausting, but what better way to relax than to hop in bed with a couple of smokin' hot boys from Ford Models? That's exactly what our fashion team did. Check out what its like to be bed-bound with some dreamy hunks. And yes, we made them take their shirts off...perverts.

We bow down to you Mr. Lagerfeld. You're 78-years-old and you are still making fashion happen -- on the daily, no less. Work.

Seamen (no, not that kind) has been a well tread inspiration since the days of Coco Chanel. Nautica was feeling especially at sea this season too, with very literal and preppy -- but nonetheless masculine and totally wearable -- incarnations of the vibe. The show notes said the brand was thinking of the California coast, but it could have been anywhere that there's a beach and some preppy guys, really. Navy blazers were worn with white, tailored pants, over hoodies and sailor stripes. Polos had a white diagonal stripe across them, reminiscent of a divers flag.

General Idea
’s spring show -- which took place on Friday afternoon -- began with a grainy black and white projection of guys in old-timey swimsuits cavorting on the beach. But when the models emerged, the black and white shifted to Technicolor á la The Wizard of Oz –- or The Wizard of St. Tropez, perhaps. Designer Bumsuk Choi was inspired by a jaunt to the French resort town.

Our arch-nemesis the Westboro Baptist Church is protesting Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and not in the way we're used to -- you know, by wearing bad clothes. The notoriously anti-gay "church" (it's really just a big, inbred family) is taking their hatred of beauty and style to a whole new level by actually picketing the event, the New York Post reports.

“I like being in the city. I like the diversity that my children are exposed to every day. I love the way their brains work. [My son] Joe turns to me the other day and says ‘One day I will have a girlfriend or a boyfriend, darling. Which would you prefer?’ And I said ‘My love, that would be entirely up to you, and it doesn’t make any difference to me.’ But that he knows! It’s a real privilege. Talk about the best education.”
